If you don’t know what the meaning of 14K gold ring is or you confuse which ring you should choose, 14K gold ring or 18K gold ring, then you have to read this article.

How much gold contain in 14K gold ring?

To know how much gold contain in 14K (or 14kt or 14ct or 585) gold ring, you can use math… No No No don’t run away, it’s simple, I promise! Here is the formula:

Pure gold or 100% gold is 24 carat (24K). 14K gold is a mixture of 14 parts of gold and 10 parts of other materials /alloys by weight (14+10=24). If we convert it to percentage:

14K gold ring = (14K/24K) x 100% = 58,333333333333333…..ZZZZzzzz % Gold or 58,5 % Gold for short (the rest 41,5 % is other materials)

While 18K gold ring = (18K/24K) x 100% = 75 % Gold (the rest 25 % is other materials)

And 9K gold ring = … (it’s your home work :-) )

So if you find ring or jewelry with 585 mark, it’s mean that ring contain 58,5% of gold.

Why must be mixed with other materials?

It’s because gold is soft material. I Strongly not recommend you to buy 24K gold ring for your wedding or engagement ring. In order to make the gold ring is possible to wear everyday with constant wear and tear, it must be mixed with other materials or metal that is harder than gold. That means 14K gold ring is slightly harder than 18K gold ring, because the percentage of harder material (i.e. other materials) that 14K gold ring contain is bigger than 18K gold ring.

What is the different of yellow gold, white gold and rose gold?

The difference is the material that used to mix with gold. This material will determine the final color of gold ring. But if we talk about gold contain, whether 14K yellow gold ring or 14K white gold ring or 14K rose gold ring will contain same amount of gold, which is 58,5 % of gold.

Now you already know that 14K gold ring is harder than 18K gold ring, so if you are an active person, I suggest you to buy 14K gold ring, because it’s harder and more scratch resistance.

P.S (read from right to left; if you don’t have much time it’s not a must to read it :-) )
DloG % 5,73 = gnir dlog K9, korwemoh ruoy rof rewsna ehT
